Shadow of Heaven is the first showing of a series of films about the European artists of around the turn of the century, organized by various European cultural institutions in the Netherlands.
The SHADOW OF HEAVEN is about the family members of the composer and painter Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis (1875-1911) and their fate.

The next screening will take place on 18 December at 20:00 at the Goethe Institut Amsterdam and will be organized by the Czech Centre and CHT projects / Hungarian forum. The program will include films about the Hungarian composer Zoltan Kodály (1882-1967) and the Czech painter František Kupka (1871-1957).

European Day of Languages

Every year, 26 September is the day we celebrate Europe’s rich linguistic heritage – the EU’s 23 official languages, the 60 or so regional/minority languages, and the languages spoken by people who’ve come to Europe from other parts of the world.
Every year throughout Europe, events are organised to celebrate languages: shows, kids’ activities, music games, language courses, radio and TV programmes, conferences.
EUNIC Netherlands
Celebrating European Day of Languages, 26 september in The Hague! Together with the Vrijzinnig Christelijk Lyceum in The Hague EUNIC Netherlands offers a series of short lectures in different European languages to give an experience of the variety of Europe. Arthur Sonnen now Chevalier dans l’orde des Arts et des Lettres
SICA employee and secretary for EUNIC Netherlands Arthur Sonnen was named Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres during a ceremony at the residence of the French ambassador in the Netherlands.
Sonnen received the award for his work at EUNIC and his role in the introduction in the Netherlands of important developments in scenic area of France, including Théâtre du Soleil and Ariane Mnouchkine, Jean Pierre Vincent, Gildas Bourdet, Didier Flamand and Gilles Aillaud. More Europe
More Europe is a cultural civic initiative that aims to highlight and reinforce the role of culture in the EU’s external relations. It calls upon EU institutions, Member States and civil society to work together in order to join up their visions, pool resources and coordinate their activities.
Europe debates in 2012:
Berlin (2 May), Paris (23 May), Amsterdam (19 September), Warsaw (October), Brussels (December). Each of these debates focuses on a specific aspect of the EU’s external cultural relations. EUNIC cooperates in these debates.

EUNIC Regional Cluster Meeting
EUNIC Regional Cluster Meeting
On the 7th and 8th of May 2012, EUNIC Cluster representatives from London, the Netherlands and Brussels spent two days in Leuven, discussing the clusters’ organisation and projects, and exploring possibilities of closer cooperation between clusters.
Cluster representatives had the opportunity to get to know each other, the internal organisation, the projects and activities of the other clusters and discuss ways of improving inter-cluster communication as well as share best practice on project organisation. This Inter-Cluster Meeting was organised and chaired by the Austrian Cultural Forum Brussels (President of EUNIC in Brussels 2011/2012) and hosted by the Institute for Ireland, also a EUNIC in Brussels member. Daria Bouwman
Daria Bouwman appointed as chairwoman EUNIC Netherlands
On 19 January 2012, EUNIC Netherlands said farewell to chairwoman Barbara Honrath, Director of Goethe-Institut Netherlands. Despite the economic challenges Barbara faced during her last year as chairwoman, she successfully organized a number of exceptional events, established new contacts and put EUNIC on the Dutch map. Barbara will continue her work as a member of EUNIC Netherlands.
Barbara is succeeded by Daria Bouwman, Head of the Cultural Section of the Austrian Embassy in The Hague. Daria will continue working with the current policy and raising awareness for EUNIC.
European Literature Night
European literature night in Amsterdam:16 May 2012. Give word to a dozen authors of the new Europe. More info on this website under 'projects'.
There will be four discussions in English among the European authors, chaired by Margot Dijkgraaf, literary critic NRC Handelsblad, author, Director Academic Cultural Center Spui 25 in Amsterdam. Between these discussions there will be a musical trip through Europe by Tjerk Ridder and Matthijs Spek from the group Trekhaak gezocht!

City2cities
City2Cities: International Literature Days Utrecht
21 – 29 April 2012
City2Cities is an international literature festival which connects the city of Utrecht with two other literary cities each year. This year those cities will be Barcelona & Prague. We invite the renowned writers from these cities to the Netherlands, search for new talent and try to discover where Utrecht and her two guest cities differ and overlap. The festival is organised by Stichting Utrechts Internationaal Literatuurfestival in collaboration with the Czech Centre and Instituto Cervantes.
